When the sun rose over Karbala, it rose upon the purest lineage in Islamic history. Banu Hashim, the family of Rasulullah (s.a.w.), did not send forward soldiers for worldly gain. They gave their sons, brothers, and children in defense of divine justice. One after another, the blessed youth of the Prophet's household rode into the battlefield, knowing death awaited. From Ali Akbar (a.s.) to Qasim ibn Hasan (a.s.), from Aun-o-Muhammad to Abbas ibn Ali (a.s.), their sacrifices stitched the banner of Islam with blood and honor. Today, the sacred memories of the Shuhada-e-Banu Hashim are revived with unmatched devotion through the voice of Syed Ali Arbaz Jafri and the commemorative rituals led by Anjuman-e-Imamia Malir.

Who Were the Shuhada-e-Banu Hashim?

The term Shuhada-e-Banu Hashim refers to the martyrs from the family of the Prophet (s.a.w.) who gave their lives on the day of Ashura. These were not just family members. They were embodiments of courage, raised in the house of revelation and purified under the verse of Tathir (Qur'an 33:33). Each shaheed held a unique position:

  • Ali Akbar ibn Hussain (a.s.) resembled the Prophet in speech and character.
  • Qasim ibn Hasan (a.s.) was a young son of Imam Hasan (a.s.) who walked into martyrdom with trembling steps and unwavering heart.
  • Aun and Muhammad, sons of Bibi Zainab (s.a.), fought valiantly for their uncle and the mission of Islam.
  • Abbas ibn Ali (a.s.), the Alamdar, stood as the shield of Hussain (a.s.) and the strength of the camps.
  • Abdullah ibn Hasan, who ran into the battlefield as a child to protect his uncle from being struck.

Each of them stood as a reflection of the Prophet's light — and each fell, writing a new chapter of glory in the pages of faith.

Anjuman-e-Imamia Malir: Honoring Each Martyr by Name

At the core of Anjuman-e-Imamia Malir's Muharram programming is a deeply spiritual Shab-e-Ashura Majlis, where each shaheed from Banu Hashim is honored individually. Youth from the community present emotional reenactments, while senior mourners deliver detailed recitations of the last moments of the martyrs. The stage is set with flags for each shaheed, cradles for the children, and symbolic alams raised in memory of Hazrat Abbas (a.s.).

This atmosphere becomes even more powerful when Syed Ali Arbaz Jafri recites nohas crafted specifically for each martyr — emotionally layered, historically accurate, and spiritually uplifting.

Arbaz Jafri's Collection: “Khoon-e-Hashimi Bol Raha Hai”

One of Arbaz Jafri's most profound contributions to azadari is his series of nohas dedicated to Shuhada-e-Banu Hashim. Titled “Khoon-e-Hashimi Bol Raha Hai”, this series features verses devoted to:

  • Qasim's torn sandals and letter from Imam Hasan (a.s.)
  • Ali Akbar's final whisper, “Father, have I done justice?”
  • The synchronized matam for Aun and Muhammad, twin warriors of Zainab (s.a.)
  • Abbas's broken arms and shattered water carrier

These nohas are now part of azadari across Pakistan, India, the UK, the US, and the Middle East — played during majalis, included in mourning reels, and recited at Shab-e-Ashura.

Global Azadari Response

Young azadars from Toronto, Najaf, Dubai, and Birmingham have created reels reciting the names of each Banu Hashim martyr while using Arbaz Jafri's nohas as background audio. Children are being named after Ali Akbar and Qasim in Muharram naming ceremonies. In academic settings, Islamic historians cite these nohas as powerful storytelling tools that help new generations understand sacrifice through poetry.

Upcoming Project: “The Bloodline” – Documentary Narration Series

Anjuman-e-Imamia Malir, with Syed Ali Arbaz Jafri, is preparing a short docu-series titled “The Bloodline”, which will feature poetic narration, historical commentary, and digitally rendered scenes of each martyrdom from Banu Hashim. It will be formatted for social media virality, complete with subtitles and high-shareability thumbnails.
